Occupy PGH Photos
Some photos from today’s Occupy Pittsburgh rally.

The rally started up by Mellon and Consol arenas. There weren’t that many people there to start.

There were a lot of diverse groups represented. Young, old, left, right, male, female, white, minority, gay, straight, and everything else in between.

By the time the crowd started moving, it had picked up another few hundred people. Everyone was civil and peaceful and people were careful not to litter.

Every few blocks, it seemed like another group of people joined in, increasing the number even more.

Various anons were in attendance. This one was documenting the event.

And this one wasn’t afraid to show his real face as he marched with the mask on backwards

Definitely my favorite sign in the comedy genre. Uncle Moneybags pissing on the everyman.

At this point, the crowd extends about as far as you can see down the road.

The crowd about a half hour before the designated meeting time. It didn’t get too much bigger than this, but there were a couple thousand people there easily. There were a handful of Ron Paul supporters as well as some Communists trying to organize a Labor Party. One Republican union member told the commies that they stood for violence and then vaguely threatened to kill them if they ever came to his house. I bought some commie swag after that just because I like to make my conservative friends feel uncomfortable.

Some people wore costumes. This guy is your average wealthy banker with his oodles of cash and his golden parachute.

The crowd listening to some chants, drums and speech. A lone dude twirls an Obama bashing dreidel. I only saw one other sign referring to Obama: “Obama, wish you were here.” There were a handful bashing Corbett and Toomey as well. Other than that, no one seemed to have a specific political target.

My other favorite sign, this one in the serious genre. Serves as a good reminder that the Occupy movement members are well educated and know their history and political theory. I talked to another participant about the gripe that the movement has no clear message. She didn’t think that was a problem, saying that the movement first needs to gain traction and attention, then grow in numbers. After it has clout and size, then the time comes for proposing solutions. For now, she said, its just important to note that we all agree on the problem.

Cy, noticed a bit of contradiction on the last pictures caption. You said that the other Occupyer said she felt it didn’t matter that there was no clear message, just that you all agree on THE problem. Isn’t that a bit of a oxymoron? Because the problem isn’t clearly defined.

I am glad that the weather was nice for you even though it was windy. Can you imagine if had been raining as hard as it was the last couple of day?

Dazes, the problem has been clearly defined as this: corporations and the wealthiest 1% wield an inordinate amount of power over the legislative process and as a result, the bulk of our legislation benefits only them and ignores the needs of the other 99% at best or outright goes against those needs at worst.

The one with the “trickle down” sign says it all without saying anything.

We were on the South Side about the same time as the rally. Bson, despite attending one of those liberal arts colleges, did not want to participate.
Good Job, Cy!
