Occupy PGH Photos: Week 2
More photos of Occupy Pittsburgh, now comfortable situated at Mellon Green

A view of the camp site from across the street.

A closer view of the camp. There were labor party supporters handing out literature and also a lot of kids painting crafts in the common areas.

My favorite sign again.

People driving by apparently occasionally yell, “get a job.” That didn’t happen while I was there although a number of people did drive by honking and waving, seemingly in support. The SEIU also stopped by to donate food.

I thought this was pretty clever. I’ve heard this comment made before as well.

Some might disagree, but I think they are the ones who would have the most to lose.

A different kind of banner made from letters sown onto threads. It says, “Trying to rejoin the middle class.”

Veterans young and old were camping out as well.

Another view of the tents.

The tally of days of occupation. This was taken on Saturday so the tally is higher as of the time of this posting.

This was taped on the ground as you walked into the camp site.

More tents.

On this “wall,” people were encouraged to anonymously share their debt and their reasons for the debt. Some of them were the result of poor planning, but the vast majority were clearly unfair situations.

I liked the message of this sign. Not everyone here is poor or jobless.

More tents…

…and even more.

A sign encouraging passers by to stop and talk. The Occupy movement has been portrayed as leaderless and without a clear message. While the former is true and intentional, the latter seems to be a result of poor journalistic efforts, or maybe just a lack of respect, from the media. The Occupiers are happy to dispel such rumors.

Another larger sign sharing a similar message. If you don’t know what the Occupiers’ message is, why not ask them to clarify yourself?
